Since 1998, the band, founded by Steve Dewar, captivated audiences across Europe with their dynamic interpretation of Celtic folk music and original compositions. Alongside Greig Coutts, who played bodhrán, they initially performed as a duo, giving traditional folk songs new life while preserving their authenticity, creating a powerful and diverse experience. As the band evolved, Dutch-born Erik de Jong (accordion and whistles) joined, and when Greig decided to move back to Scotland, Peter Kelly took over the bodhrán. This lineup showcased music from both sides of the Irish Sea, enriching their unique sound. Passion, diversity, and authenticity were the key elements for the Assassenachs, who took their audience on a journey through various of the Celtic world. From ballads and love songs to lively reels, their performances encompassed a wide range of themes and emotions. Unfortunately, the band ceased their activities in September 2025. The legacy lives on in the form of de band DEWAR.
